David Croghan sent over a number of photographs that he took while serving in the armed forces in the early 1950s. Below is a snapshot he took of a WW2-era Scammell Pioneer 6x4 breakdown/heavy recovery tractor, hard at work in the Egyptian desert in 1952.

Pioneers were (are) renowned for their excellent axle articulation. A Youtube video uploaded by the REME Museum gives a good overview of this, and demonstrates the recovery of a stranded tank.

A photo of a later vehicle produced by the same company, may be found on the Scammell Highwayman page.
