Historic pre-1970 rally and competition carsPhotos of these classic rallycarsThere was no competitive action at this location, the drivers stopping by for a mid-morning break and cup of tea before tackling the rally stages later in the day. This gave me a good opportunity to photograph the cars up close. In the end, both myself and another guy ended up marshalling the cars as they poured in to, and out of, the bunker's car park during the morning. We'd not expected to be involved but it was hardly an onorous task, although it did make photographing everything a little tricky at times! Fortunately my neighbour Pete attended too, and some of his photos have found their way into the selection below (thanks Pete). The Rally Of The Tests is organised by the Classic Rally Association, and this was the 5th year of the event's running. The main cutoff date is 1962, although later cars were able to compete under a different class, for cars upto and including 1968. I'm sure one or two later cars were in evidence, but the event was definitely in the spirit of 50s rallying. Period attire for competitors was encouraged by the organisers, and most crews looked decidely dapper as they piloted their elderly motor cars in the stages, starting on Thursday through to Sunday's finish.
