The 105E was bang up-to-date when launched at the end of the 1950s and was a breath of fresh air after years of wheezy old sidevalve cars in the small-car market. BMC had been producing OHV engined small cars since the A30s launch c1952/3 so Ford was well behind the competition for many years.
