1950s Standard Companion.

The Companion estate car was based upon the Standard 10 from the 1950s. Later cars featured the revised front wings of the Pennant model. These Standards are jolly rare now - this one looks like a minter. Power comes from the 948cc Triumph engine that would go on (in enlarged form) to be used in Heralds and Spitfire (plus others) for another 20+ years til the demise of the 1500 Midget and Spitfires.

Standard Books Whether for the Companion as shown below, or any other type of Standard, it is worth having a look on Amazon for books, DVDs, Videos etc.

Standard Companion picture.
  • Companion from Standard.
  • Built in: 1950s.
  • Colour(s): Blue and white.
The Standard photograph above wasn't taken by me, but by G. King, and is shown on oldclassiccar with his permission. His photos were taken at various locations a few years ago, including photos of classic Standards such as the Companion shown above. From what I can tell, some of the cars and vans featured were seen at shows (eg at the NEC and Alexandra Palace in London), whereas others were spotted out and about in daily use, or parked up at the side of the road. If you own the Standard shown here, or know the story of this particular Companion, by all means get in touch. I'd be interested in showing similar photos of other Companions too, so if you can help please drop me a line.

More of the photos in this particular collection can be seen on the general Classic Car Photographs page. Other picture collections, featuring similar Standards, are available to view in the main car photos section.
