Nuffield tractor.
Who knows their Nuffield tractors? The "BMC DIESEL" badge on the grille narrows down the list of potential candidates. My guess is that it's a Nuffield 10/42 three-cylinder diesel tractor, but I'm happy to be corrected, not being too au fait with the subject. The precise location of the scene shown in the photo is also open to debate. The photo turned up with a collection of images taken at a South African motor racing meet (held at Pietermaritzburg, 1959), and is printed on identical paper to the same size as these other photos. The 10/42 tractor - if that's the model shown here - was introduced some five years later, in 1964, so while S. Africa may be the location, either the date, or the exact id of the tractor, doesn't quite fit.

A young lad is sat on the Nuffield, grinning broadly at the photographer, as any right-thinking 7/8yr old boy would do given the opportunity to play on a shiny new, bright orange, tractor. Our own son had his first driving lesson at the age of 8, early in 2017, behind the wheel of our grey Fergie - I can confirm that tractors tend to get our offspring quite excited indeed. I wonder who the little chap in the cap is?

Note the lettering picked out in white on the Firestone tractor tyres, which again points to this being a trade show, or at least within the traders' area at an event of some kind. The exhaust pipe also appears to have been finished in a camouflage paint job.

Behind the driver's seat, above the rear mudguard, is a mirror in which a reflection of the boy's head can be seen.
