A 1946 Norton motorcycle.
Although predominantly a site for cars and commercial vehicles, I'm fond of classic motorcycles too, and a number, including bikes such as this Norton, now feature across the site. This fine photo came with no notes sadly, but obviously it shows a motorcyclist and his Norton, ready for the "off". I'm guessing that the photo was taken either in the autumn or early winter, judging by the trees in the background. His clothing also suggests a parky old day - pudding basin helmet, goggles, wellington boots, full length overcoat, scarf and gloves.

LMK 885 was registered in the London area, although the location of this motorcycling photo isn't known. Car enthusiasts will have spotted a collection of old cars in the background, namely a Ford 100E, a 1950s' Hillman Minx, and a Morris Oxford MO. Hopefully a motorcycle fan will see this photo and be able to identify the model and, perhaps, the year built?

Update. Rotarybri, from the forum, has come up with this extra information on the Norton shown above: "This is a 1946 model, as it has a fuill cradle frame with girder forks - telescopic forks were fitted from 1947. Pre-war frames were of the open diamond type where the front down tube finished at the crankcase. It could be a Model 18 (490cc)".
